Karnataka Political Crisis Deepens as CM Seeks Clarity
Amid growing speculation about a potential leadership reshuffle in Karnataka, Minister Satish Jarkiholi made significant revelations on Wednesday about Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's position on the matter. The Public Works Minister disclosed that Siddaramaiah has formally requested the Congress high command to make an early decision regarding leadership change in the state.
Minister Jarkiholi's Crucial Revelations
Speaking to reporters, Jarkiholi confirmed his plans to seek an appointment with Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge to discuss the pressing issue. He emphasized that the final decision rests solely with the party's national leadership, while revealing that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah prefers a swift resolution to the ongoing speculation.
"When CM says it, then seniors in the party should take note of it," Jarkiholi stated, highlighting the urgency created by Siddaramaiah's position. However, he maintained that no formal discussions have occurred among MLAs about a possible leadership shift within the party ranks.
Deputy CM's Ambitions and Internal Dynamics
Jarkiholi shed light on Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar's persistent ambitions, noting that Shivakumar has openly expressed his desire to become chief minister since the government's formation. Despite these aspirations, the party initially chose Siddaramaiah for the top position.
The minister confirmed meeting Shivakumar at a private hotel for approximately one hour, acknowledging the deputy chief minister's active outreach efforts. "There is no discussion about leadership change in the party. Once it comes up then we will discuss but there is no discussion about it in the party right now," Jarkiholi clarified about the current internal situation.
Multiple Claimants and Future Scenarios
Responding to Home Minister G Parameshwara's assertion that he should also be considered for the chief minister's position, Jarkiholi acknowledged Parameshwara's seniority and his five-year tenure as Pradesh Congress Committee president. "I had said in Belagavi that there is nothing wrong in making such claims. So he too is senior but who will decide finally? It happens in Delhi," Jarkiholi remarked.
Despite the leadership tussle, Jarkiholi emphasized Siddaramaiah's continuing importance to the party, stating that Congress would require the chief minister's leadership, service, and guidance even after his retirement from active politics.
The political drama has intensified in recent months, with party insiders confirming that Shivakumar has been actively pushing to be named the next chief minister, setting the stage for a crucial decision by the Congress high command that could reshape Karnataka's political landscape.
