Karnataka Cabinet Reshuffle: Siddaramaiah Seeks Rahul Gandhi's Nod
Siddaramaiah seeks Rahul Gandhi time for Karnataka reshuffle

Karnataka Chief Minister Awaits High Command Signal

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah confirmed on Tuesday that he has sought an appointment with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to discuss the much-anticipated cabinet reshuffle. The Chief Minister revealed that he is awaiting approval from the party high command before proceeding with the cabinet expansion.

Responding to media queries about his upcoming visit to New Delhi, Siddaramaiah clarified that his primary purpose for visiting the capital on November 15 is to attend an event organized by former Union Minister Kapil Sibal. However, he intends to utilize the opportunity to meet with Rahul Gandhi if granted time.

Uncertain Timeline for Reshuffle Decision

The Chief Minister expressed uncertainty about whether the cabinet reshuffle discussions would conclude during his November 15 visit. "I have sought time from Rahul Gandhi. If he gives time, I will go and talk to him," Siddaramaiah stated during a news conference in Mysuru.

He added, "Most likely, if I don't get time from the high command, I will return on the same date." This statement indicates that the final decision might extend beyond his scheduled Delhi visit.

Political Timing and Vacant Positions

According to Congress sources, substantial discussions regarding the cabinet reshuffle are expected to take place after the Bihar Assembly election results on November 14. This strategic timing suggests the party leadership wants to focus on the crucial Bihar polls before addressing Karnataka's cabinet matters.

Currently, two cabinet berths remain vacant following the resignations of ministers K N Rajanna and B Nagendra. The empty positions have created anticipation within political circles about potential new appointments and portfolio redistributions.

Agriculture Minister N Chaluvarayaswamy recently indicated that a final decision on the reshuffle would likely emerge by the end of November, aligning with the post-Bihar election timeline suggested by party sources.

Broader Political Commentary

During the press conference, Siddaramaiah also addressed national issues, including the recent Delhi blast. He emphasized that the Central government should provide reasons for the attack and called for a thorough investigation.

"Let the Centre investigate," he stated, while expressing sorrow over the loss of innocent lives during the Red Fort incident.

When questioned about the potential impact of the Delhi blast on Bihar Assembly elections, the Karnataka Chief Minister suggested it would adversely affect the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), indicating his assessment of the political ramifications of security incidents.

Addressing Regional Environmental Concerns

Shifting focus to state matters, Siddaramaiah announced plans to hold a meeting with Forest, Ecology and Environment Minister Eshwar Khandre in the coming week. The discussion will center on measures to prevent man-animal conflicts in districts surrounding Mysuru.

The Chief Minister expressed dissatisfaction with the Forest Department's official response, which attributed increasing conflicts to rising tiger and elephant populations. He advised officials to provide scientific reasons and more substantial solutions to address the growing concern.

This comprehensive approach demonstrates the government's commitment to tackling both political administrative matters and pressing environmental issues affecting local communities.
