LoP Umang Singhar Slams BJP on Women's Issues in Madhya Pradesh

Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar on Saturday launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regarding women's issues in Madhya Pradesh. He asserted that the state government must address its own dismal record before claiming any credit on women's reservation.

Political Advantage vs. Harsh Ground Realities

In a strongly worded statement, Singhar emphasized that while it might be easy to take political advantage of women's reservation, the actual ground realities are extremely harsh and troubling. He highlighted several critical failures in the state's approach to women's welfare.

Six-Year Vacancy in Women's Commission

Singhar pointed out that the Women's Commission in Madhya Pradesh has been operating without a chairperson for an astonishing six years. This prolonged vacancy has severely hampered the commission's effectiveness in addressing women's grievances and ensuring their rights.

Furthermore, he revealed that more than 30,000 cases are currently pending with the commission, indicating a massive backlog that leaves countless women without timely justice or resolution.

Alarming Crime Statistics and Disappearances

The opposition leader expressed deep concern over the daily disappearances of girls from the state, coupled with crimes against women that show no signs of abating. "If the government was indeed concerned about women's welfare, they would have first set their own house in order," Singhar stated, questioning the administration's commitment to protecting women.

BJP's Representation in Lok Sabha Questioned

Singhar also scrutinized the BJP's own record on women's empowerment at the national level. He noted that presently, there are only 31 women Members of Parliament from the BJP out of a total of 240 in the Lok Sabha. "Is this the truth about empowerment?" he asked, challenging the party's claims of promoting gender equality.

Call for Accountability and Systemic Improvement

Accusing both the government and the administration of being in a deep slumber, Singhar criticized their tendency to manipulate the Constitution in the name of women when it comes to politics. He urged them to stop pretending to be benevolent and instead take concrete actions.

Singhar's demands include:

  • Providing clear answers to the public on women's issues
  • Improving the systemic flaws that hinder justice
  • Ensuring timely and fair justice for all women in the state

He concluded by emphasizing that mere political rhetoric is insufficient; tangible improvements in governance and justice delivery are essential to truly empower women in Madhya Pradesh.
