Gaya police on Tuesday arrested six individuals in connection with the alleged attack on the convoy of Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) Barachatti MLA Jyoti Manjhi, which occurred on Sunday. The arrests were made following raids in the Mohanpur area, as confirmed in a press note issued by the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP).
Details of the Arrests
The six arrested persons have been identified as Paltu Yadav, Sunil Kumar, Neeru Yadav, Hriday Kumar alias Mitthu, Yogendra Yadav, and Vikram Thakur. According to the SSP's office, raids are continuing to apprehend other accused individuals involved in the incident.
MLA's Complaint
On Sunday, the MLA had lodged a formal complaint at the Mohanpur police station against seven named individuals and 15 to 20 unidentified persons. In her complaint, she alleged that a group of people blocked her vehicle's passage while she was traveling to Gamharia village in the Mohanpur block to attend a social function. When her security personnel requested the occupants of another vehicle on the same road to make way, they allegedly manhandled two guards, Dheeraj Kumar and Suraj Kumar. The accused, reportedly in an inebriated state, also made casteist remarks and attempted to smash the window panes of the MLA's vehicle.
Furthermore, the MLA alleged that her vehicle was denied a police escort on the pretext of a fuel shortage in the official vehicle, allegedly by the Mohanpur Station House Officer (SHO).
Police Response
Magadh range Inspector General (IG) Vikas Vaibhav stated, "A delegation came to meet me on Tuesday regarding the police escort issue. The delegation was assured that full security will be provided to the MLA. Regarding the role of the SHO, the Gaya SSP has been asked to conduct an inquiry and take action accordingly."
The investigation is ongoing, with authorities working to ensure the safety of elected representatives and to bring all perpetrators to justice.
