SP-BJP Political Confrontation Erupts Over Estranged MLA Pooja Pal

In Lucknow on Thursday, a fresh political controversy ignited as Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav made a provocative statement regarding Pooja Pal, the estranged SP MLA from Chail in Prayagraj. The remarks prompted an immediate and sharp response from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), escalating tensions between the two major political forces in Uttar Pradesh.

Akhilesh Yadav's Warning and Allegations

Akhilesh Yadav, the former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, declared that his party would vigorously oppose Pooja Pal if she is nominated as a candidate by the BJP in the upcoming 2027 assembly elections. He accused the BJP of misleading SP leaders, including Pal, stating, "Our party's legislator has been misled and taken away. Now tell me, where should I file an FIR?"

This comment came in reaction to Pooja Pal's recent praise for Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, whom she described as a "dhurandhar" or formidable leader. Akhilesh Yadav took a swipe at her understanding, suggesting she failed to fully comprehend the CM's leadership.

BJP's Forceful Counterattack and Historical Accusations

Uttar Pradesh BJP president Pankaj Chaudhary launched a strong rebuttal, shifting the focus to the murder of Raju Pal, Pooja Pal's husband and a former MLA who was killed in 2005. Chaudhary alleged that those responsible for Raju Pal's murder were "protected and promoted" by the SP during its tenure.

He demanded that an FIR be filed concerning what he termed the "blood-stained history" linked to the killing, accusing the SP of a long-standing association with mafia, crime, and patronage-based politics. Chaudhary further claimed that the party not only sheltered the accused in the Raju Pal murder case but also assisted them in gaining political legitimacy.

Allegations of 'Jungle Raj' and Changing Political Dynamics

Chaudhary questioned the irony of SP leaders speaking about people being "misled" while, in his view, failing to address the alleged surge in criminal activities under SP rule. He pointedly asked why Uttar Pradesh was often labeled with "jungle raj" during that period, highlighting governance and security concerns.

The BJP leader asserted that the Pal community has now recognized what he called "cosmetic" socialism and is gravitating toward politics centered on development, security, and effective governance. He cited the increasing number of public representatives and party workers leaving the SP to join the BJP as evidence of shifting political dynamics in the state.

This exchange underscores the deepening political rift in Uttar Pradesh, with both parties leveraging historical controversies and personal narratives to gain electoral advantage ahead of future polls.
