A speeding car went out of control and ploughed into several commuters in Lucknow's Ghazipur police station area on Saturday, leaving several people injured, including a couple and their child, police said.
Accident at SBD Intersection
At the SBD intersection, a demo vehicle driver lost control of the vehicle and collided with several vehicles, resulting in injuries to three individuals who have been admitted to Lohia Hospital. The vehicle was seized and legal action is being taken, according to police.
Details of the Incident
Around 4:30 pm, the car was driven out of a showroom near Bhootnath market in Indira Nagar. The hatchback hit vehicles and pedestrians for nearly 100 metres before jumping into the opposite lane and crashing into an SUV, coming to a halt. The impact damaged at least six two-wheelers and two four-wheelers.
The woman driver, Sushma Sunhar, is an employee of the showroom. Her two male colleagues who were with her fled after the crash.
Eyewitness Account
One victim, Ashish Verma, said, "I was heading back towards my shop after dropping a colleague. I saw the car swerving at high speed behind me and tried to move aside, but it rammed into my vehicle from behind."
Investigation Underway
Police rushed the injured to nearby hospitals and began examining CCTV footage from the area. Officials stated that the exact cause of the accident, whether it was mechanical failure, human error, or rash driving, is being investigated.
