Stalin's Strong Accusation Against the Centre
Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's scheduled visit to Tamil Nadu, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin launched a sharp critique against the Union government on Wednesday, November 19, 2025. He accused the BJP-led Centre of deliberately denying Metro rail services to the key cities of Madurai and Coimbatore on what he termed as "flimsy grounds."
Allegations of Political Vendetta
In a post on the social media platform X, CM Stalin framed the decision as a form of political retribution. He stated that this move is "revenge" against Tamil Nadu's democratic choice to elect a government from an opposition party. He elaborated that the Centre is pushing a custom where BJP-ruled states receive Metros for smaller Tier II cities, while opposition-ruled states like Tamil Nadu are deprived. "Pushing such a political custom... is a disgraceful approach. Tamil Nadu, the land of self-respect, will never accept such a distortion of federal principles," Stalin asserted.
A Determined Stand for Tamil Nadu's Development
Drawing a parallel with past challenges, the Chief Minister recalled how the state government had to overcome attempts to stall the Chennai Metro project. "They attempted to stall the #Chennai Metro, and we overcame those malicious attempts and kept the project progressing," he said. Stalin ended his statement with a firm resolve, declaring that with the same determination, his government would secure the essential Metro Rail systems for the future growth of Madurai, the 'Temple City', and Coimbatore, often called 'South India's Manchester'.
