CM Stalin Invokes Cultural Metaphor, Calls BJP 'Northern Danger' to Tamil Nadu
Chief Minister M K Stalin on Monday invoked a powerful cultural metaphor to launch a sharp attack on the BJP government at the Centre, asserting that danger for Tamil Nadu has historically come from the north. Campaigning vigorously in Tiruvallur and Ranipet for the DMK and its allies, Stalin identified the BJP as the contemporary embodiment of this historical threat.
Historical Metaphor and Political Warning
"In most Tamil Nadu villages, native gods face north because danger has historically come from that direction. Today, that danger is the BJP-led NDA," Stalin declared to the gathered crowd. The DMK supremo framed the upcoming assembly polls as a critical battle for protecting Tamil Nadu from what he termed "northern domination." He emphatically stated, "Delhi's remote control will never get a signal here. You must show the NDA a clear no entry."
Direct Challenge on State Identity
Stalin issued a bold dare to the BJP, challenging them to attempt to change Tamil Nadu's name. "As long as this Stalin is alive, as long as DMK exists, you cannot even touch Tamil Nadu. If you have the courage, say that you will rename Tamil Nadu as Dakshina Pradesh. Let us see. We will not remain silent like slaves. We are people of self-respect," he proclaimed. This statement underscored his commitment to preserving the state's distinct identity and autonomy.
Accusations Against BJP and AIADMK
The Chief Minister accused the BJP of attempting to rule Tamil Nadu through what he described as a "subservient AIADMK." He pointedly questioned, "BJP is openly saying it will form an NDA government here even if AIADMK wins and impose the three-language policy. Why is Palaniswami silent? Does he not have the spine to oppose this?" This rhetoric aimed to highlight perceived collusion between the national party and the state opposition.
Contrast with Jayalalithaa's Legacy
While praising the late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, Stalin intensified his criticism of the current AIADMK leadership. "We might have differences with Jayalalithaa, but if there were issues affecting Tamil Nadu, she would have stood firm on matters such as GST and NEET. She even challenged 'Gujarat Modi vs Lady'. But now look at the sorry state of AIADMK. It could not even raise a voice for issues affecting the state," he remarked, drawing a stark contrast between past and present opposition stances.
Mockery of EPS and AIADMK's Current State
Stalin mocked AIADMK leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami, accusing him of acting as an agent who bartered away Tamil Nadu's rights merely to retain power and evade legal action. In a biting critique, he said, "You were calling Jayalalithaa as 'Amma' but where there are problems you are remaining 'summa'. After 'mummy's' demise, Palaniswami has made AIADMK a 'dummy'." This wordplay emphasized his view of the AIADMK's diminished stature and effectiveness under current leadership.
The speech reinforced Stalin's narrative of the DMK as the sole defender of Tamil Nadu's interests against perceived external threats, setting a combative tone for the electoral campaign ahead.
