Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin Accuses BJP-Led Centre of Political Marginalization

Chief Minister M K Stalin launched a sharp critique against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Union government on Sunday, alleging a deliberate attempt to reduce Tamil Nadu's political representation under the guise of the proposed women's reservation bill. Speaking at an election rally in Paramakudi, Stalin intensified his campaign promises as the state gears up for upcoming polls.

Allegations of Betrayal Against Southern States

Stalin accused the Centre of what he termed a "betrayal" of southern states, particularly targeting regions like Tamil Nadu that have successfully implemented population control measures and made substantial contributions to national economic growth. He argued that the Union government is seeking to penalize these states through political maneuvers.

"Democratic forces across the country will unite to oppose this unjust move," Stalin declared, emphasizing widespread resistance to what he perceives as an attack on regional representation.

Direct Challenge to Opposition AIADMK

In a pointed political attack, Stalin questioned the courage of AIADMK chief Edappadi K. Palaniswami. "Does AIADMK chief Palaniswami possess the necessary courage to oppose and question this grave injustice against Tamil Nadu?" he asked, challenging the opposition party to clarify its position on the contentious issue.

Welfare Promises and "Dravidian Model 2.0" Vision

The Chief Minister outlined an ambitious series of welfare measures that would be implemented if the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) returns to power with what he described as a "Dravidian model 2.0" government. Key promises include:

  • Significant expansion of the fare-free travel scheme for women, with increased number of buses
  • Continuation and enhancement of existing successful welfare initiatives
  • Implementation of an Rs 8,000 coupon system for purchasing home appliances
  • Promotion of seaweed cultivation to support fishermen's welfare
  • Renewed efforts to reclaim Katchatheevu from Sri Lanka through diplomatic channels

Impact of Existing Schemes and Campaign Strategy

Highlighting the success of current DMK-led initiatives, Stalin revealed that women have undertaken more than 935 crore trips over 1,800 days under the free bus travel scheme. He described the DMK's election manifesto as the "election superstar" that would drive the party's campaign.

Earlier in the day, Stalin conducted a morning walk in Paramakudi, personally interacting with residents and seeking their support as political campaigning intensifies across Tamil Nadu. This grassroots approach underscores the DMK's strategy to connect directly with voters ahead of crucial elections.

The Chief Minister's remarks reflect growing tensions between the DMK-led state government and the BJP-led Centre, with political representation and regional autonomy emerging as central issues in the upcoming electoral battle.
