In a pointed political attack, DMK leader M K Stalin has questioned Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay's recent visit to Delhi, suggesting it might be an attempt to evade scrutiny in the Karur CBI case involving a deadly stampede at his rally. Stalin's remarks came amid ongoing investigations into the incident that claimed 41 lives.
Alleged motive for Delhi trip
Stalin questioned whether Vijay's participation in the NITI Aayog meeting was a strategic move to divert attention from the Karur case. The stampede, which occurred during a public rally, has drawn significant criticism and legal action. Stalin implied that the Chief Minister's focus on national engagements might be a tactic to avoid local accountability.
Political strategy critique
The DMK leader accused Vijay of copying his party's policies during the NITI Aayog meeting. He pointed out that Vijay's demands, including exemption from NEET and enhanced women's welfare measures, mirrored those long advocated by the DMK. This, Stalin argued, was hypocritical given Vijay's earlier criticism of the DMK for similar stances.
Policy continuity debate
Stalin highlighted that Vijay's speech at the meeting echoed the DMK's core demands, such as NEET exemption and support for women's welfare. He noted that the Chief Minister had previously opposed these very policies, now presenting them as his own. This shift, Stalin said, reflects a lack of original vision and reliance on the DMK's agenda.
Funding request controversy
Vijay requested ₹3,284 crore in education funds from the Centre without conditions, a departure from the DMK's earlier hardline stance against central policies. Stalin criticized this as a softening of the state's position, potentially compromising Tamil Nadu's autonomy. The DMK had previously insisted on unconditional funding but opposed certain central schemes.
BJP alliance allegations
Stalin alleged that Vijay's government is secretly aligning with the BJP. He cited Vijay's appearance in a group photo with BJP leaders during the Delhi visit as evidence of growing ties. This, he claimed, contradicts the Chief Minister's public stance of opposing the BJP's policies. The allegations have fueled speculation about a potential political realignment in Tamil Nadu.
