DMK Chief M K Stalin to Kick Off Assembly Election Campaign from Tiruvarur on March 31

In a move blending symbolism and strategy, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin is set to launch his assembly election campaign from Tiruvarur on March 31. This decision holds deep significance for the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), as Tiruvarur is the native town of the late chief minister M Karunanidhi, Stalin's father and a towering figure in the party's history.

Campaign Schedule and Public Meetings

A party statement has outlined Stalin's first-phase campaign schedule, which will cover 32 constituencies over three days. On Tuesday evening, he will address a public meeting at Tiruvarur South Car Street. The campaign will then move to Trichy, where Stalin will hold a morning meeting at Uzhavar Sandhai, followed by another at Rayanur in Karur. On April 2, he is scheduled to conduct meetings at Chithode in Erode and the Codissia grounds in Coimbatore.

Symbolic Significance of Tiruvarur

Party members emphasize that Tiruvarur holds special importance for the DMK. M Karunanidhi began his political journey in this town and later represented the Tiruvarur assembly segment in 2011 and 2016. In his later years, Karunanidhi also commenced his election campaigns from Tiruvarur. By choosing this location as his starting point, Stalin is seen as invoking his father's legacy, aiming to connect with voters through emotional and historical ties.

Strategic Campaign Launch in the Cauvery Delta

Beyond symbolism, the choice of Tiruvarur is strategic. Located in the Cauvery delta region, it serves as an ideal launchpad for the campaign, especially after Stalin's recent announcement of free motor pumpsets for farmers. This promise is a key element in the DMK's manifesto, and the delta region, which provided a sizable number of MLAs for the DMK in the 2021 elections, is crucial for electoral success. The move is designed to give a jumpstart to the campaign by directly addressing the agricultural community and reinforcing the party's commitments.

As the campaign unfolds, Stalin's focus on both legacy and grassroots issues highlights the DMK's approach to securing votes in the upcoming assembly elections.
