Tamil Nadu CM M K Stalin Proclaims Dravidian Model 2.0 for 2026 Assembly Elections
In a significant political rally at Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK president M K Stalin issued a powerful call for the establishment of a "Dravidian Model 2.0" government following the 2026 state assembly elections. The event showcased a united front with alliance partners, emphasizing a collective vision for the state's future.
Solidarity Display and Economic Achievements Highlighted
Sharing the platform with VCK president Thol Thirumavalavan and DMDK general secretary Premallatha Vijayakanth, Stalin underscored the strength of the coalition. He pointed to the state's remarkable economic turnaround under the DMK administration, noting that Tamil Nadu's growth rate surged from a mere 0.07% during the previous AIADMK rule to an impressive 11.19%. This performance has earned the state international recognition as a "Superstar State" in global media reports.
Reflecting on historical ties, Stalin recalled his close friendship with the late DMDK founder Vijayakanth, mentioning that Vridhachalam was the constituency where Vijayakanth first secured electoral victory in 2006. Responding to Premallatha Vijayakanth's sentiment that the alliance should have formed earlier, Stalin agreed, stating, "Better late than never. This is now the latest and strongest winning combination."
Welfare Guarantees and Policy Enhancements Announced
Stalin unveiled a comprehensive package of welfare guarantees targeting key demographics, including homemakers, farmers, and youth. Key announcements include:
- Urimai Thogai Increase: The monthly rights grant will be doubled from Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,000.
- Illatharasi Scheme: A new initiative providing Rs 8,000 coupons for purchasing or exchanging home appliances.
- Expanded Breakfast Scheme: Coverage will extend from Class V to Class VIII, benefiting an additional 15 lakh children.
- Enhanced Financial Aid: Support under the 'Pudhumai Penn' and 'Tamil Pudhalvan' schemes will rise to Rs 1,500.
- Farm Support: Procurement prices will increase to Rs 3,500 per quintal for paddy and Rs 4,500 per tonne for sugarcane, with 20 lakh modern electric pump sets to be distributed to farmers.
- Disaster Compensation: In light of Cuddalore's vulnerability to natural calamities, compensation will be enhanced to Rs 25,000 per hectare for paddy and Rs 27,000 for long-term crops.
Political Critique and Infrastructure Promises
Stalin did not hold back in his criticism of the Union government and the opposition AIADMK. He condemned Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent comments suggesting that free bus travel for women under the Vidiyal Payanam scheme reduces metro rail profits. "This shows the Prime Minister doesn't care about women's advancement. If the NDA comes to power, they will stop this scheme," Stalin warned.
He accused AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami of compromising Tamil Nadu's interests by aligning with the BJP to evade investigations into corruption cases, such as the Gutkha scam and Kodanad heist. Mocking the AIADMK, Stalin remarked that it has transformed from "Anna DMK" into "Amit Shah DMK."
Stalin also outlined specific infrastructure projects for the Cuddalore district, including:
- Construction of a new bridge across the Gadilam river.
- Desilting and strengthening of the Perumal lake in Kurinjipadi.
- Promotion of Pichavaram as a premier tourist destination.
- Extension of modern cancer treatment facilities at the Cuddalore government medical college hospital.
Referencing a song written by the late chief minister M Karunanidhi for Vijayakanth's film Makkal Aanaittal, Stalin urged voters to consider future generations when casting their ballots. He emphasized that the party's manifesto serves as the superstar of the alliance's campaign, driving their vision forward.
