Student shifts fridge to library in Rajasthan University protest

A protest over the lack of cold drinking water at Rajasthan University’s Central Library escalated on Tuesday when student leader Shubham Rewar took a refrigerator from a head of department’s office and placed it in a common area of the library.

Reason for the action

Rewar stated that the move was made after repeated requests to the university administration failed to yield any results. “Students are being forced to drink warm water in this scorching heat. We took this measure because repeated representations are ignored and students are only given assurances,” he said.

Student grievances

He claimed that a large number of students visit the Central Library daily for studies, but proper drinking water facilities are unavailable. The lack of cold water has become a major issue, especially during the summer months.

Warning of further protests

Warning of further agitation, Rewar said students would continue raising issues related to basic amenities. He demanded immediate arrangements for cold drinking water and air coolers at the library. He added that a larger protest would be launched if the administration failed to address the concerns.

The university administration has not yet issued an official response to the incident.
