Sudhakaran Slams CPM Over SilverLine Markers

Thiruvananthapuram: Ambalappuzha MLA G Sudhakaran launched a sharp attack on the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPM] over the now-scrapped SilverLine project, asserting that the controversial yellow survey markers used during its implementation were an 'unnecessary mistake' made without proper consideration.

Speaking in the state assembly on Tuesday, Sudhakaran stated that the CPM should have withdrawn the yellow boundary stones much earlier. Referring to the party's political strategy, he remarked that if the CPM had understood Lenin's principle of taking 'one step forward and two steps back' when necessary, the markers would have been removed at the very outset.

'The yellow stones have now been removed by the people themselves. Installing them was an ill-conceived move,' he said. Sudhakaran noted that the markers had even been placed inside residential properties, including kitchen areas in the constituency of former minister Saji Cherian. He claimed that he had warned of a public backlash at the time.

The MLA further criticized the CPM's handling of the project, emphasizing that the markers symbolized the party's disregard for public sentiment. The removal of the markers by local residents, he argued, demonstrated the failure of the CPM's approach.

Sudhakaran's remarks come amid ongoing political tensions over the SilverLine project, which was eventually scrapped after widespread protests. The yellow markers had become a symbol of the controversy, with many accusing the government of high-handedness.
