Union Minister and senior BJP leader Sukanta Majumdar encountered aggressive protests during his visit to Diamond Harbour on Thursday, where demonstrators shouted "go back" slogans and attempted to halt his convoy. The incident has sparked fresh political tensions in West Bengal.
Protesters in Saffron Scarves Confront BJP Leader
As Majumdar's convoy reached Sarisha in Diamond Harbour, a group of agitators surrounded the vehicles and began shouting political slogans. Some protesters were wearing saffron scarves while chanting "Jai Shri Ram" and "Dilip Ghosh Zindabad," creating a confusing political spectacle.
The Union minister was traveling to meet with party workers who had been injured in earlier clashes with Trinamool activists. These workers were distributing sweets to celebrate the NDA's performance in the Bihar assembly elections when violence erupted.
Political Camouflage or Internal Rift?
Majumdar immediately dismissed the protesters as Trinamool workers in disguise. He asserted that this was a deliberate strategy by the ruling party to project an image of internal conflict within the Bengal BJP unit.
"This is a strategy of Trinamool in which they are trying to project the agitation as a mark of the party's internal feud. But we know this pattern now," the Union minister stated firmly.
Local BJP leader Abhijit Das, who was the party's Lok Sabha candidate from the area, supported Majumdar's claims. Das suggested that a video clip circulating from the incident might have been manipulated, and revealed that the person leading the protest had actually switched to Trinamool long ago.
Background of Political Tensions
The protest occurred against the backdrop of ongoing political violence in West Bengal. The injured BJP workers that Majumdar intended to visit had been attacked while celebrating the NDA's electoral success in Bihar, highlighting the persistent political friction in the state.
Both BJP and Trinamool Congress have repeatedly accused each other of political violence and intimidation tactics. This latest incident in Diamond Harbour adds another chapter to the contentious political narrative playing out in West Bengal.
Local BJP leadership has strongly denied any internal rift within the party's district unit, characterizing the protest as a carefully orchestrated political drama designed to undermine the party's unity and public image.
