SAD President Sukhbir Badal Pledges to Eliminate Drugs and Gangsters in Punjab by 2027

In a significant declaration, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal has vowed to eradicate the pervasive issues of drug trafficking and gangsterism in Punjab if his party secures power in the 2027 state elections. Speaking to journalists in Ferozepur on Tuesday, Badal emphasized his party's unwavering commitment to tackling these social evils that have plagued the region for years.

Governor's Anti-Drug Campaign Receives Praise

Badal made these remarks after participating in a walk alongside Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, which was organized as part of the ongoing 'nasha mukt' (drug-free) campaign. He commended the governor for his proactive approach, stating, "The governor understood the pulse of the people and travelled from village to village to create a movement against this menace." Badal highlighted that drugs have become a severe scourge in Punjab, devastating the future of an entire generation and necessitating urgent action.

Criticism of AAP and Congress Governments

The SAD chief did not hold back in criticizing the current Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government and the previous Congress administration for their perceived failures in addressing the drug crisis. He asserted that it was commendable for Governor Kataria to lead the anti-drug campaign, especially in light of the AAP government's inability to effectively combat the issue. Badal pointed out that over the past nine years, genuine efforts to eradicate drugs have been hampered because both the Congress and AAP engaged in political maneuvering rather than implementing concrete solutions.

He recalled specific instances, noting, "Captain Amarinder Singh took a false oath on the holy 'Gutka Sahib' to eradicate this menace in 4 weeks, while Arvind Kejriwal said he would take a few months." These promises, according to Badal, were never fulfilled, leaving the drug problem to fester and grow more entrenched in Punjab's society.

SAD's Vision for a Drug-Free Punjab

Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, Sukhbir Badal outlined SAD's comprehensive strategy to wipe out drug trafficking and gangster activities. He stressed that his party would prioritize this issue, implementing robust policies and community-driven initiatives to restore safety and health in Punjab. Badal's statement underscores a clear political agenda aimed at resonating with voters who are weary of the ongoing drug epidemic and its associated criminal elements.

By aligning with the governor's campaign and publicly committing to this cause, the SAD president is positioning his party as a viable alternative for voters seeking change. The pledge to eliminate drugs and gangsters by 2027 sets a bold target, reflecting the urgency and seriousness with which SAD intends to address these critical challenges in Punjab.
