Kolkata: Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Tuesday made his maiden visit to Lalbazar, the headquarters of Kolkata Police, since assuming office. Adhikari, who also holds the crucial home portfolio, chaired a high-level review meeting with top brass, including Police Commissioner Ajay Nand, to assess city security and expedite pending police modernization projects.
Security Review Ahead of Eid
The visit comes ahead of Eid-ul-Zuha, a major festival celebrated by the Muslim community. An officer present at the meeting stated that Adhikari directed cops to maintain "maximum vigil" and execute robust deployment strategies in sensitive pockets to ensure peaceful celebrations and preserve communal harmony.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister emphasized the need for heightened surveillance and proactive measures. He instructed officials to strengthen coordination between different police units and utilize modern technology for effective monitoring. The review also covered the status of ongoing modernization projects aimed at upgrading infrastructure and equipment for the police force.
