In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking and illegal liquor sales, the Tambaram city police seized 21 kilograms of ganja and 1,900 Tapentadol tablets from various locations during operations conducted on Thursday and Friday. The police also apprehended multiple suspects involved in narcotics distribution and cyber fraud cases.
Raids Across Multiple Locations
The coordinated raids were carried out by teams from the Semmanchery police station, the Guduvanchery Prohibition Enforcement Wing, and the Kundrathur police station. These operations targeted key areas known for illicit activities, leading to the recovery of substantial quantities of contraband.
Arrests and Seizures
Alongside the drug seizures, the police arrested several individuals suspected of being part of a broader network involved in drug peddling and cyber fraud. The exact number of arrests was not immediately disclosed, but authorities confirmed that the suspects are being interrogated to uncover further links.
Commissioner's Statement on Ongoing Vigilance
Tambaram Commissioner of Police Sanjay Kumar stated that strict surveillance and surprise inspections would continue unabated against a range of offences. These include ganja trafficking, illegal sale of narcotics, unlawful liquor sales, public drinking, bars operating beyond permitted hours, and drunken driving. The commissioner emphasized that the police force is committed to maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety of citizens.
This operation is part of a larger strategy to curb the rising menace of drug abuse and illegal liquor consumption in the region. The police have urged the public to report any suspicious activities to help in the fight against such crimes.
