In a significant development across southern Tamil Nadu, heavyweight politicians and notable debutants officially entered the electoral fray by filing their nomination papers on Saturday. This marked a crucial phase in the election process, with activity reported from multiple constituencies.

Madurai Constituencies See Key Submissions

At the Madurai North zone corporation office, DMK candidate and sitting MLA G Thalapathy formally submitted his nomination, alongside AIADMK contender P Saravanan. Meanwhile, in the Thiruparankundram constituency, AIADMK candidate and current MLA V V Rajan Chellappa filed his papers at the tahsildar office, with DMK candidate Kiruthiga Thangapandi also completing the process.

The Thirumangalam constituency witnessed nominations from AIADMK's sitting MLA R B Udhayakumar and DMK candidate Sedapatti Manimaran, setting the stage for a competitive race.

Notable Debutants and Alliance Dynamics

A highlight of the day was the nomination filing by actor-director Sundar C, contesting from Madurai Central on a Puthiya Neethi Katchi (New Justice Party) ticket as part of the AIADMK alliance. He was accompanied by his wife, BJP functionary Khushbu, and party founder A C Shanmugam. In contrast, DMK candidate and minister Palanivel Thiaga Rajan has yet to file his nomination in this constituency.

Ministerial Candidates and Key Contenders

DMK sitting minister and MLA of Tiruchuli in Virudhunagar district, Thangam Thennarasu, formally filed his nomination, reinforcing his candidacy. Similarly, in Oddanchatram, DMK candidate and sitting MLA R Sakkarapani submitted his papers at the tahsildar office.

In Bodinayakannur within Theni district, AIADMK candidate V T Narayanasamy filed his nomination, though his chief rival, former chief minister and sitting MLA O Panneerselvam, has not yet submitted his papers.

Other Significant Filings

Adding to the political landscape, former police officer and encounter specialist S Velladorai, representing Sasikala's AIPTMMK, filed his nomination for the Nanguneri constituency in Tirunelveli district. This move introduces a new dynamic in the region's electoral contest.
