In a sharp political retort, Team Omie Kalani launched a counterattack on Wednesday against Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. This came after the CM's strong remarks about preventing the return of criminal dominance, or 'gundaraj', during an election rally in Ulhasnagar.
Fadnavis's Firm Warning at Rally
Addressing a gathering, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis adopted a firm tone, issuing a clear warning against any resurgence of criminal rule in the city. Without naming any specific individual or group, his comments were widely seen as a veiled dig at Shiv Sena's local alliance partner, Team Omie Kalani, which has faced controversies in the past.
"No one should even think of bringing back gundaraj to Ulhasnagar. We will not allow it. Only the rule of law will prevail here," Fadnavis stated. He further emphasized his resolve, adding that he knows how to deal strictly with those who attempt to disturb law and order.
Team Omie Kalani's Sarcastic Counter
Responding to the Chief Minister's statements, Team Omie Kalani spokesperson Kamlesh Nikam spoke to the media. While expressing support for the idea of a crime-free Ulhasnagar, Nikam highlighted what he called a glaring contradiction in Fadnavis's actions.
"We fully support the Chief Minister's campaign for a gundaraj-free city. However, it would have been more appropriate if this message had begun from his own stage," Nikam said. He launched a pointed allegation, claiming that several candidates with criminal backgrounds were present on the dais during the CM's rally.
Nikam specified that at least one such candidate has a pending bail hearing in the Kalyan Sessions Court. "If the Chief Minister was aware of this, he should have first instructed the police to remove such candidates from the stage and then spoken about ending gundaraj," he added.
Questioning Credibility and Impact
In a sarcastic dig, the spokesperson questioned the credibility of the anti-crime message. Nikam argued that speeches against criminal dominance lose their moral force and public impact when individuals with questionable legal backgrounds are seen sharing the same platform with the leader delivering the message.
The exchange underscores the heated political climate in Ulhasnagar and sets the stage for a contentious electoral battle, with accusations of hypocrisy and past associations taking center stage.
