Telangana Plans Law to Deduct Salary of Govt Employees Neglecting Parents
Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy announced a bold move on Monday. He said the state government will soon introduce a new law. This law will target government employees who neglect their parents.
Under the proposed legislation, 10% of the salary of such employees will be directly transferred to their parents' bank accounts. The Chief Minister made this statement in Hyderabad on January 12, 2026. He emphasized the government's commitment to protecting elderly citizens.
Focus on Elderly Welfare and Complaint Mechanism
Revanth Reddy issued a clear warning to government staff. He stressed that complaints from elderly parents against their children must be taken seriously. The government is not stopping at salary deductions.
Authorities are also setting up daycare centres for senior citizens across the state. These measures form part of a broader push to safeguard the elderly and disabled populations.
New Healthcare Policy and Support for Disabled Persons
The Chief Minister revealed additional welfare plans. His government will introduce a new healthcare policy in the upcoming 2026-27 Budget. The aim is to provide better healthcare access for all residents of Telangana.
For persons with disabilities, the state launched a significant initiative. The government began free distribution of various assistive devices at Praja Bhavan. This includes retrofitted motorised vehicles, battery-operated tricycles, and battery wheelchairs.
Authorities also handed out laptops, hearing aids, mobile phones, and other advanced equipment. The government has allocated Rs 50 crore for this new scheme.
"Our government is working from a humanitarian perspective," Reddy stated. He added that the goal is to ensure persons with disabilities live with self-respect in society. The state has already announced a Rs 2 lakh grant for newly wedded persons with disabilities.
Special Quotas and Transgender Representation
The Chief Minister confirmed special quotas for disabled persons in education and employment. In another significant announcement, he said transgender persons would get nominated as co-opted members of Municipal Corporations.
"One co-option member post will be allotted to transgenders in every municipal corporation," Reddy explained. He believes this move will help the transgender population raise their issues effectively at the local governance level.
These announcements come as part of the state government's comprehensive approach to social welfare. The measures address multiple vulnerable groups including the elderly, disabled individuals, and transgender communities.
