Telangana Cabinet to Review 2-Year Performance, Plan for Poll Promises
Telangana Cabinet to Review 2-Year Performance, Plan Roadmap

The Congress government in Telangana is preparing for a significant review of its tenure as it completes two years in power. The state cabinet is scheduled to convene on December 22 or by the end of the month for a crucial stock-taking exercise. This meeting aims to solidify the roadmap for implementing the party's remaining election promises, enhancing resource mobilisation, and accelerating key infrastructure projects.

Agenda: From Performance Review to Future Planning

The upcoming cabinet session, chaired by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, will set the tone for the winter assembly session. It will involve a thorough review of the government's performance over the past two years and outline plans for the third year. Sources from the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) indicate the agenda is packed with critical items.

The cabinet is expected to assess the outcomes of the Telangana Rising Global Summit, which successfully garnered investment commitments worth a staggering Rs 5.75 lakh crore. Additionally, the political performance in the recently concluded panchayat elections will be analysed. This meeting follows the previous cabinet session on November 25, which approved the major expansion of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits by merging 27 urban local bodies.

Focus on Flagship Projects: Musi Rejuvenation

Discussions are likely to be dominated by flagship initiatives, chief among them being the ambitious Musi River rejuvenation project. Government sources reveal that the state aims to commence physical work on this flagship project of CM Revanth Reddy from Ugadi in March 2026.

The project has received a significant boost with the external-aided project committee of the Union housing and urban affairs ministry granting in-principle approval to the preliminary project report. The state is seeking a Rs 4,200 crore loan from the World Bank to fund this initiative. For final loan approval, the submission of detailed project reports for water supply, wastewater, and stormwater management to the Central Public Health and Environmental Engineering Organisation (CPHEEO) is mandatory.

Metro Rail Expansion and Takeover

Another high-priority item on the cabinet's agenda is the planned takeover of the Hyderabad Metro Rail from L&T. The Congress government is keen to complete this transfer by the end of the current financial year. Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao has directed officials to ensure a smooth and time-bound process.

The transaction advisor appointed by IDBI has been asked to finalise its report at the earliest. The cabinet meeting is also expected to discuss expansion plans for the metro rail network and necessary engagements with the Centre for funding and approvals.

This comprehensive cabinet meeting signifies the government's intent to consolidate its achievements and aggressively pursue its developmental agenda in the lead-up to the next electoral cycle.
