Telangana Chief Minister Releases First Tranche of Rythu Bharosa Assistance
In a significant move for agricultural welfare, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy distributed the initial installment of Rythu Bharosa financial aid to approximately 70 lakh farmers for the current season. The event took place at Narmetta in Siddipet district on Sunday, marking a pivotal moment for the state's farming community.
Substantial Financial Commitment to Farmers
The Chief Minister announced that the complete allocation of Rs 9,000 crore will be disbursed to beneficiaries over the next 45 days. The first payment, amounting to Rs 3,600 crore, was scheduled for crediting on Monday following the announcement. Revanth Reddy emphasized his personal connection to agriculture, stating, "I have come from a humble background and understand farming and farmers. Despite financial challenges, we are releasing the entire amount within 45 days."
He further highlighted the government's dedication to agricultural prosperity, noting, "We believe that the state will not prosper if farmers are in distress." The CM provided comparative data, revealing that since the Congress party assumed power, monthly expenditure on the farming sector has averaged Rs 5,500 crore, significantly higher than the Rs 2,500 crore monthly average during the previous BRS administration. Over the past 25 months, approximately Rs 1.40 lakh crore has been allocated specifically for farmers' welfare initiatives.
Infrastructure Development and Crop Diversification Push
During his visit to Narmetta, the Chief Minister inaugurated an oil palm factory dedicated to the nation and laid the foundation stone for a cooking oil refinery plant with an estimated cost of Rs 80 crore. These projects underscore the government's focus on enhancing agricultural infrastructure and value addition.
Revanth Reddy stressed the critical importance of crop diversification, pointing out that the central government will not procure more than 50 lakh tonnes of paddy from Telangana. "We are producing so much paddy that even if we exported it all to rice consuming countries, there will still be a lot left," he remarked. He encouraged farmers to emulate the success of Ankapur farmers, who have achieved prosperity through diversification and adopting improved agricultural practices.
The CM reflected on Telangana's agricultural heritage, noting that during the Nizam's era, the region was renowned for commercial crops. "In the past, Rangareddy district thrived on cultivation of vegetables and fruits. But today, focus on real estate has diminished agriculture, leading to an increase in import of vegetables and fruits from other states," he observed. He advocated for renewed emphasis on crop diversification and indicated willingness to engage with the central government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to enhance farmers' livelihoods.
Oil Palm Cultivation and Export Ambitions
Revanth Reddy highlighted the profitability of oil palm cultivation, with Telangana currently leading the nation in this crop. "If we cultivate oil palm on 1 million acres, the government will purchase it," he assured. He pointed out that each district in Telangana is recognized for specific crops, leveraging the state's fertile land and diligent farmers. The government is actively working towards exporting agricultural produce to international markets.
Warning About Urea Shortage and Policy Recommendations
Amid the ongoing conflict in West Asia, the Chief Minister issued a warning about potential urea shortages. He proposed that the urea produced at the Ramagundam fertilizer factory should be entirely allocated for Telangana's requirements to mitigate scarcity. "To prevent a urea shortage in our state due to ongoing conflict, a delegation of Congress and BJP MPs should go to the Centre, coordinated by minister Tummala," he suggested, advocating for bipartisan cooperation to address the issue.
Focus on Education, Women Empowerment, and Skill Development
The Chief Minister also addressed broader developmental goals, urging students to prioritize acquiring practical skills over merely obtaining degrees. He encouraged women to utilize government programs to achieve economic independence, stating, "We aim to empower women to become entrepreneurs and plan to make one crore women in the state millionaires." He affirmed his commitment to women's advancement as essential for Telangana's ambition to become a $1 trillion economy by 2034.
In the education sector, Revanth Reddy announced plans to launch public schools in the upcoming academic year designed to compete with private institutions. The government is considering a comprehensive overhaul of all public schools and intends to establish advanced training centers to provide skill development opportunities for youth.
The public meeting in Narmetta concluded with the CM reiterating his administration's dedication to agricultural welfare, economic diversification, and holistic development across Telangana.
