Telangana CM slams PM Modi's appeal on gold buying

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Monday termed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's appeal to the people to postpone buying gold and plans to travel abroad for a year as a complete failure of the BJP-led NDA government and its foreign policy. The comments came a day after Modi asked people to bring back some of the Covid-19-era measures to conserve foreign exchange and fuel during a public meeting in the city on Sunday.

Revanth's Criticism of Modi's Appeal

Revanth had chosen to remain apolitical in his speech while attending a function with Modi. But he did not hold back a day later. "Modi is trying to hide his government's failure and inefficiency with an undeclared prohibition on gold purchase among other things," the chief minister said. "It was an irresponsible appeal from the PM. The Congress and Rahul Gandhi have been saying that these problems would arise, but the BJP never bothered. They don't have a roadmap for crisis management. In fact, the BJP government at the Centre is a misguided missile," Revanth alleged.

Call for All-Party Meeting

In an informal interaction with reporters at his residence, he said the Centre must convene an all-party meeting at least now to take opinions on how to overcome the impact of the Iran war. Revanth termed it unfortunate that the PM spoke against the country's own citizens, i.e., Maoists and Muslims, while accusing Congress of having become 'Muslim League Maovadi Congress'. "Are Muslims and Maoists not part of the country? As PM, he should respect all religions, castes and communities. The Constitution provides the right to follow the religion of your choice. But they (BJP) believe in killing whoever opposes them or they think are not in line with their ideology and discriminate against them," Revanth said.

Maoist Surrenders in Telangana

He added that as many as 818 Maoists surrendered along with their arms. The surrenders included 22 central committee members and 326 weapons including AK 47 rifles, SLRs, LMGs and INSAS rifles. "This is a record achieved by the Congress government in the state which no other state could do. The Centre should have appreciated the state government. Killing will not solve the Maoist problem as bullets are not the solution but the ballot is," he said.

BJP Accused of Divide and Rule

The CM termed the BJP as the "British Janata Party" and accused it of following a divide and rule policy isolating Muslims, Maoists, and other sections of society despite all communities being equal citizens of the country. He reiterated his appeal to senior Maoist leader Ganapathi to join mainstream society and assured government support, including medical and financial assistance, for those surrendering.
