Telangana Chief Minister to Officiate Major Agricultural Project Inauguration
Hyderabad: In a significant development for Telangana's agricultural sector, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy is scheduled to inaugurate a state-of-the-art oil palm factory and lay the foundation stone for an associated refinery at Narmeta in Siddipet district this Sunday. This event marks a pivotal moment for the region's farming community and economic infrastructure.
Preparatory Review by Ministers and Officials
Ahead of the inauguration, ministers Tummala Nageshwara Rao and Ponnam Prabhakar, accompanied by key officials, conducted a comprehensive review of the arrangements on Saturday. Their inspection covered multiple critical aspects of the site, ensuring all preparations are in place for the official ceremony.
The review included assessments of the helipad, the 150 stalls established as part of the Rythu Mahotsavams on the factory premises, the designated site for the oil refinery foundation stone laying, and the meeting venue. This thorough examination underscores the government's commitment to a seamless and impactful launch.
Strategic Importance and Operational Details
Minister Ponnam Prabhakar emphasized the factory's role as a central hub for oil palm farmers across northern Telangana. He urged farmers to focus on oil palm cultivation, highlighting its potential for superior profitability compared to traditional crops. The factory boasts an impressive crushing capacity ranging from 30 to 180 tonnes per hour, designed to efficiently process large volumes of produce.
Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageshwara Rao revealed that this facility is the first of its kind in the country to be completed in a remarkably short timeframe of just 16 months. He explained that the rapid construction was necessitated by the previous need to transport produce cultivated in the state to Aswaraopeta, making this local factory a strategic solution to reduce logistical challenges and costs.
Expanding Cultivation and Economic Impact
Over the past four to five years, farmers from 30 districts in Telangana have increasingly adopted oil palm cultivation, with private companies also showing growing interest in the sector. Minister Tummala stated that the Siddipet oil palm factory will hold significant importance for the state's agricultural economy, noting that his first official signature upon assuming the agriculture portfolio was dedicated to this very project.
The facility, constructed on 32 acres at a total cost of Rs 300 crore, incorporates sustainable practices by utilizing waste generated in the factory to produce four megawatts of electricity. The refined oil will be distributed directly to beneficiaries under the Vijay brand, ensuring quality and accessibility.
Farmer Benefits and State Support
Farmers selling their produce to this factory will receive payments directly into their accounts within three days, a swift transaction process aimed at improving financial liquidity and support. Minister Tummala projected that the facility is expected to produce more oil than Malaysia, a global leader in palm oil production, and noted that oil palm cultivation can be undertaken in diverse climatic conditions, enhancing its viability across regions.
He further clarified that the factory has been funded through oil palm remuneration, describing it as "people's money and property" that directly benefits the agricultural community. In a broader context, Tummala highlighted Telangana's unique status as the only state in India to waive farmers' loans amounting to Rs 21,671 crore in a single phase, demonstrating the government's robust support for the farming sector.
