Telangana Congress President Addresses Media on Party Affairs and Political Rivals
In a significant media briefing at Gandhi Bhavan in Hyderabad, Telangana Congress president B Mahesh Kumar Goud addressed multiple issues concerning the party's internal dynamics and external political challenges. Goud revealed that several District Congress Committee (DCC) presidents had lodged complaints with Rahul Gandhi regarding non-cooperation from eight MLAs. Following these complaints, Rahul Gandhi initiated discussions with the legislators as directed by the All India Congress Committee (AICC) leadership.
Rahul Gandhi's Hands-On Approach to Party Restructuring
Goud emphasized that Rahul Gandhi is personally overseeing the comprehensive restructuring of the party through the DCC presidents' framework. This restructuring involves clearly defining roles and responsibilities to enhance organizational efficiency. "Rahul Gandhi is deeply involved in ensuring the party's structure is robust and responsive," Goud stated, highlighting the seriousness of these efforts.
He provided an example of this commitment, noting that eight DCC presidents from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana were denied training certificates because they attended less than two days of a mandatory 10-day training camp. "This demonstrates how seriously the AICC takes training and discipline within the party," Goud explained, underscoring the importance of adherence to party protocols.
Countering Criticism from BJP and BRS
Goud launched a strong rebuttal against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing it of unfairly targeting Rahul Gandhi. He demanded that the BJP and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) clarify alleged references to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the Epstein files, calling for transparency from the ruling party.
Regarding criticism from Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao against Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, Rahul Gandhi, and the Congress government in Telangana, Goud dismissed these allegations as expressions of frustration. "The BRS and its top leadership have lost the trust and confidence of the people, leading to their defeat in every election since December 2023," he asserted.
Goud specifically addressed KTR's interpretation of Revanth Reddy's statement about party workers contributing Rs 1 to reach a Rs 1,000 crore goal, calling it a deliberate distortion. "People have stopped believing the BRS, and their electoral losses are clear evidence of this decline," he added, reinforcing the Congress's position in the state.
Stance on Maoist Surrender and Kerala Politics
On the issue of Maoist surrender, Goud clarified the Congress's opposition to 'Operation Kagar' and questioned the BJP and RSS's stance. "Why is the Prime Minister willing to engage in talks with Pakistan but not with Maoists?" he asked, pointing out a perceived inconsistency in government policy.
He clarified that while the Congress is not actively recruiting Maoists, those who wish to surrender and join the democratic process through the party would be welcomed. "We support a peaceful transition to democracy for anyone willing to renounce violence," Goud stated, outlining the party's inclusive approach.
Turning to Kerala politics, Goud expressed confidence in the Congress's prospects, noting that revenue minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy has already responded to criticism from Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. "We are optimistic about forming the government in Kerala," he said, highlighting the party's ambitions beyond Telangana.
This comprehensive address by B Mahesh Kumar Goud sheds light on the Congress's strategies to address internal challenges, counter political rivals, and expand its influence in key regions, reflecting a proactive stance in a dynamic political landscape.
