Telangana Government to Publish White Paper on Davos and Global Summit Investments

In a significant development, Telangana's IT and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu has announced that the state government is prepared to release a comprehensive white paper detailing investments and memorandums of understanding (MoUs) signed during the Davos meetings and other global summits. This move aims to provide transparency and clarity on the state's industrial progress and commitments.

White Paper to Cover Grounded Projects and Future Initiatives

Minister Sridhar Babu emphasized that the white paper will not only list the investments and MoUs but also include detailed information on projects that have been grounded in the state so far. This initiative is part of the government's effort to ensure accountability and track the implementation of industrial agreements.

Furthermore, the state government is committed to establishing a green pharma city, which will be complemented by the development of supportive ecosystems. These ecosystems will include residential areas and sports facilities, designed to create a holistic environment for industrial growth and community well-being.

Response to Opposition Criticism and Comparative Analysis

Addressing criticisms from the opposition, particularly from Sircilla MLA KTR, Minister Sridhar Babu defended the government's performance. He pointed out that while Maharashtra signs the highest number of MoUs with industries, only about 30% to 40% of these are grounded. He attributed the lower grounding rate in Telangana to various factors, including applicable terms and conditions that may delay or alter project implementations.

Sridhar Babu also objected to KTR's comments labeling the Congress government as a flop. He countered by stating that the BRS party had faced significant setbacks, not only in the 2023 assembly elections but also in subsequent Lok Sabha, gram panchayat, and municipal elections, indicating a broader trend of political decline for the opposition.

Land Use Concerns and Revenue Decline Issues Raised by KTR

Earlier, KTR raised concerns about the government's plan to allot land acquired for a pharma city for other purposes under the guise of a future city. He highlighted that this land was taken from farmers with the specific condition that it would be used solely for industrial purposes. KTR criticized the government for considering scrapping the pharma city project, despite the party's historical opposition to polluting industries, which he argued contradicts their earlier stance.

KTR also questioned the accuracy of investment figures, IT exports, and new industry data presented in official records, the TSiPASS website, and ministerial statements. He demanded that the government provide official and precise figures, citing a significant decline in state revenue over the past few years as a pressing issue.

Economic Slowdown and Policy Impact

KTR noted that Telangana, once among the fastest-growing states in India, is now experiencing an economic slowdown. He pointed to declines in state-owned tax revenues, including GST collections, property registrations, and vehicle-related revenues. According to KTR, this downturn is a direct result of what he described as 'negative policies and a negative mindset' adopted by the current administration.

The debate underscores the ongoing political and economic challenges in Telangana, with both sides presenting contrasting views on industrial development, transparency, and fiscal management. The release of the white paper is expected to shed light on these issues and provide a factual basis for future discussions.
