Shashi Tharoor Urges Policy Reset, Economic Revival After Kerala Poll Trends
Tharoor Calls for Policy Reset, Economic Revival in Kerala

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Monday expressed optimism as early counting trends in the Kerala assembly elections indicated a lead for the United Democratic Front (UDF). Speaking to the media, Tharoor emphasized the urgent need for a change in government, comprehensive policy reforms, and a swift economic revival to address the state's mounting fiscal challenges.

Call for Policy Reset and Investment

Tharoor highlighted that Kerala's economy requires a significant policy reset to attract renewed investment and generate employment opportunities. He stressed that job creation is critical to prevent the migration of young talent to other states or abroad. The Congress MP noted that the state's fiscal health has deteriorated under the current Left Democratic Front (LDF) government, and a new administration must prioritize fiscal consolidation and growth-oriented policies.

Caution Against Premature Celebrations

While acknowledging that several LDF leaders were trailing in early trends, Tharoor urged caution against premature celebrations. He stated that a decisive shift in voter sentiment would require sustained trends throughout the counting process. The final verdict, he said, will only be clear after all rounds of counting are completed.

Tharoor's remarks come as Kerala witnesses a high-stakes electoral battle between the ruling LDF and the opposition UDF, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also making efforts to expand its footprint. The election outcome is seen as a referendum on the Pinarayi Vijayan government's performance, particularly its handling of the economy and welfare schemes.
