Tragic Drowning Incident Claims Lives of Three Brothers in Bihar
In a heartbreaking incident, three minor siblings lost their lives after drowning in the Kareh River in Samastipur district, Bihar, on Monday. The boys, who had recently returned from Delhi, were swept away by strong currents while attempting to rescue one another during a bath amid the scorching heat.
Details of the Fatal Incident
According to police reports, the victims have been identified as Aditya Kumar Jha (15), Harshnath Kumar Jha (13), and Kartik Kumar Jha (11). They were the sons of Sudarshan Jha, a resident of Boraj village under the Shivaji Nagar police station area. The tragedy unfolded when the brothers entered the river, and one of them was caught in a powerful current.
The other two siblings immediately tried to save him but were also dragged into the water, leading to all three being swept away. The incident highlights the dangers of bathing in rivers, especially during periods of high water flow and heat.
Rescue and Recovery Efforts
Upon receiving information, villagers rushed to the spot and alerted the authorities. A coordinated rescue operation was launched with the help of local divers and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).
- The bodies of Aditya and Harshnath were recovered first and taken to the Shivaji Nagar Primary Health Centre (PHC), where doctors declared them brought dead.
- Kartik's body was retrieved later in the operation, adding to the family's grief.
The swift response from the community and emergency services was crucial in the recovery process, though it could not prevent the tragic outcome.
Family Background and Aftermath
Shivaji Nagar SHO Ravindra Kumar provided further context, stating, "Sudarshan Jha works as a security guard with a private firm in Delhi, where the family lived and the children studied in private schools. The family had returned to the village for Ram Navami celebrations."
The boys' return to their ancestral home for the festive occasion turned into a devastating loss. After post-mortem examinations were conducted, the last rites were performed, marking a somber end to what should have been a joyful family reunion.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the risks associated with bathing in rivers, particularly for children, and underscores the need for increased safety awareness in rural areas during hot weather conditions.
