Three people were killed and around 800 residents evacuated in rain-related incidents across Thane district on Wednesday, the district administration said in an official release. A lightning strike also injured two individuals.

The fatalities include one person each from Thane city, Ambernath, and Mira Bhayander, according to the release. The deceased were identified as residents of these areas, though their names were not immediately disclosed.
The lightning strike occurred in a separate location, leaving two people injured. They were rushed to a nearby hospital and are reported to be in stable condition.
Evacuations and relief measures
Approximately 800 people were evacuated from low-lying and flood-prone areas as heavy rains lashed the district. The administration set up relief camps and provided food and shelter to the displaced.
Thane district has been experiencing incessant rainfall over the past 48 hours, leading to waterlogging in several areas. The India Meteorological Department has issued a warning for continued heavy rain in the region.
Impact on daily life
Roads in parts of Thane city were submerged, causing traffic snarls. Local train services on the Central Railway route were also affected, with delays reported. Schools and colleges in some areas remained closed as a precaution.
The district administration urged residents to stay indoors and avoid venturing into flooded areas. Emergency response teams have been deployed to assist in rescue and relief operations.

Authorities have advised people to stay away from open spaces during lightning and to avoid touching electrical appliances. The administration is monitoring the situation and coordinating with the state disaster response force.
