The sacred hill town of Tirumala is witnessing an unprecedented surge in pilgrim footfall, with over 4.32 lakh devotees having had the darshan of Lord Venkateswara in the last five days alone. The temple authorities reported that more than 90,000 devotees visited the shrine on May 16 and 17, indicating a massive turnout.

Record-Breaking Pilgrim Numbers

According to official data, the influx of devotees has been exceptionally high. On May 16 and 17, the temple recorded over 90,000 visitors each day. This trend continued, with significant numbers on subsequent days. The total count of 4,32,213 devotees in just five days underscores the immense popularity of the temple and the faith of the devotees.

Surge in Tonsure Offerings

Alongside the darshan rush, the number of devotees offering tonsure has also increased dramatically. Between May 18 and 20, more than 43,000 devotees shaved their heads as an offering to the deity. This practice, known as Mokku or tonsure, is a traditional form of gratitude and devotion. The temple administration has made arrangements to manage the large number of devotees opting for this ritual.

The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has been working round the clock to ensure smooth darshan and facilities for the pilgrims. Additional counters for tonsure have been set up, and queue management systems have been strengthened to handle the rush. The TTD officials have urged devotees to cooperate and follow the guidelines for a hassle-free experience.

The unprecedented rush highlights the deep spiritual connection devotees have with Lord Venkateswara, and the temple continues to be a beacon of faith for millions across the country.
