Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president K Selvaperunthagai on Saturday expressed strong confidence that the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance would secure more than 200 seats in the upcoming Tamil Nadu assembly election. Speaking to reporters at the Coimbatore airport, he dismissed opinion polls that projected around 145 seats for the DMK alliance, calling them an attempt to impose a particular narrative.
Unity and Campaign Efforts
Selvaperunthagai emphasised that leaders across the alliance are united and confident that their collective efforts will yield results. He highlighted the campaigns by senior Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, along with the outreach by Chief Minister M K Stalin, stating that these efforts would not go in vain. "People are clear about their choice," he asserted.
Response to Opposition and Issues
When asked about Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, Selvaperunthagai said discussions could be held after the election results are declared. On the issue of rising LPG prices, he criticised the BJP-led central government for its habit of hiking fuel prices after every election, noting that voters are aware of this pattern. Responding to criticism over the state Congress leadership, he dismissed it as "emotional reactions" and pointed out that the party had improved its tally from 25 seats to 28 this time and secured an additional Rajya Sabha seat, questioning claims of decline.
