TN Congress Chief Submits Report to Kharge on Alliance Discord with DMK
Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president K Selvaperunthagai met with Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge in Bengaluru on Monday, presenting a detailed report concerning the escalating tensions within the DMK alliance. This meeting was prompted by recent controversial statements made by Congress MP B Manickam Tagore, which have sparked significant discord between the two parties.
Controversial Remarks by Tagore Strain Alliance
In recent days, B Manickam Tagore has publicly raised demands for power-sharing arrangements, specifically highlighting the Madurai North seat as a point of contention. He has also accused DMK leaders of disrespecting the Congress party, asserting that Congress has historically shouldered the burden of DMK's past political missteps. These remarks have deeply irritated the DMK leadership, threatening to destabilize the long-standing alliance.
Selvaperunthagai's Report and Urgent Action
During the meeting, Selvaperunthagai submitted a comprehensive report outlining the controversies that have emerged over the alliance in the past three days. "I submitted a report on the controversies over the alliance in the last three days. The party president will take the final call," Selvaperunthagai stated, emphasizing that the decision on how to proceed rests with Kharge.
Sources within the TNCC revealed that Selvaperunthagai strongly urged for disciplinary action against Tagore, warning that continued public statements of this nature could severely strain the alliance. The report likely includes recommendations for measures to curb such outbursts and restore harmony between the parties.
Prior Caution to Party Leaders
Before departing for Bengaluru, Selvaperunthagai had already cautioned Congress leaders against speaking publicly on alliance matters. He cited clear directives from the All India Congress Committee (AICC) leadership and senior leader Rahul Gandhi, underscoring the importance of maintaining discipline and avoiding public spats that could damage the coalition.
This internal warning highlights the Congress party's efforts to manage the situation proactively, aiming to prevent further escalation and preserve the electoral partnership with DMK ahead of future political challenges.
