Madurai: Trichy MP Durai Vaiko on Saturday reaffirmed that the Tamil Nadu government remains firm against the Mekedatu dam project. Furthermore, he emphasized that the state government must prioritize resolving ongoing issues in the electricity and transport sectors while ensuring strict action against any criminal activity.
Firm Stand on Mekedatu Dam
Addressing the media here, he said that irrespective of the stand taken by various organizations on the Mekedatu dam project, the Tamil Nadu government remains firm in its decision that the Mekedatu dam should not be constructed. He said that a significant change cutting across caste, religion, and language has taken place in Tamil Nadu, and the people are expecting this change to reflect in the governance of the state under the chief minister.
Call for Introspection Among Parties
He added that not only the DMK and its alliance partners but also all political parties must introspect and analyze the reasons for their electoral defeat in this election. Durai Vaiko said political parties must examine why the people of Tamil Nadu have chosen Vijay as chief minister and understand what led to this change, stressing the need for self-analysis based on democratic principles.
Clarification on Controversial Remark
Responding to the controversy over his remark that contesting under the Rising Sun symbol was “unfortunate,” he said a fake narrative was being created around his statement. He clarified that his comment was made solely on the democratic principle that alliance parties should be allowed to contest under their own symbols. He said that if the DMK had asked them to contest under the Rising Sun symbol and they had instead chosen to walk out of the alliance, critics would still have wrongly accused them of having ulterior motives.
Meeting on Railway Projects
Earlier, Durai Vaiko held a one-hour meeting with the Madurai divisional railway manager to discuss pending railway projects.
