A tragic road accident near Kancheepuram on Thursday morning claimed the life of a 30-year-old man and left 12 others injured. The incident occurred when a tractor carrying daily wage labourers collided with a private company van on the Kancheepuram-Arakkonam Road.
Details of the Accident
The collision took place around 7:40 am. The labourers were heading to Parandur, where they had been hired for compound fencing work. The impact of the collision caused B Venkatesan, a resident of Melsirunai village, to be thrown from the tractor. A trailer attached to the tractor ran over his right thigh, inflicting severe injuries that led to his death on the spot.
Injuries and Response
Twelve other individuals sustained minor injuries in the accident. They were promptly taken to Kancheepuram Government Hospital for medical treatment. Authorities have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
This incident highlights the risks faced by daily wage workers traveling on farm vehicles, which are often not designed for passenger safety. The local police are examining the scene and gathering evidence to determine the exact cause of the collision.
