Tripura Border Alert: Section 163 BNSS Imposed Amid Militant Movement Fears
Tripura Border on High Alert Over Militant Movement

Authorities in Tripura's Gomati district have implemented stringent security measures along the sensitive border with Bangladesh. This decisive action comes in response to credible intelligence reports indicating suspicious movements by armed groups operating from the neighboring country.

Intelligence Triggers Preemptive Security Measures

The directive was formally issued by Gomati District Magistrate Rinku Lather. The decision is based on specific intelligence inputs provided by the Commandant of the 159 Battalion, BSF Bagma. The reports raised alarms about the potential movement of militants belonging to groups like the Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (PCJSS) and the United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF).

Concerns are not limited to these groups alone. Intelligence also points to risks of infiltration by foreign nationals from Bangladesh, Rohingya individuals, and members of other militant organizations. The specific border stretch under surveillance runs from BOP Labokant Para to BOP Chaplin Chera in the Karbook sub-division.

Key Restrictions and Exemptions

To counter these threats, the administration has invoked powers under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). The primary objective is to safeguard peace and stability by preventing any actions from anti-national elements that could compromise public safety.

The restrictions are officially in effect from December 3, 2025, until February 28 of this year. The key measures imposed include:

  • A strict prohibition on gatherings of more than four people between 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM, unless explicit prior permission is obtained from local authorities.
  • General restrictions on public movement in the designated high-alert zones.

However, recognizing the daily needs of border residents, an important exemption has been made. People living within 300 meters of the international border are not subject to these directives.

Focus on Criminal and Subversive Activities

The intelligence inputs suggest that the suspected movements are linked to plans for various illegal activities. These potential threats include criminal acts, cross-border smuggling operations, and deliberate attempts to disturb public order.

By enacting these preemptive measures, the district administration aims to create a robust deterrent. The goal is to thwart any efforts by hostile groups to exploit the border region for activities that endanger national security and the well-being of local communities.

The situation remains under continuous review by security forces and civil administration, with a clear focus on maintaining vigilance without causing undue hardship to law-abiding citizens residing near the frontier.
