Tripura Erupts: 24-Hour Bandh Turns Violent, BJP Workers Injured in Fresh Clashes
Tripura violence: 24-hour bandh turns violent

Tripura witnessed another day of political turmoil and violence as a 24-hour bandh called by TIPRA Motha supporters turned violent across the state. The protest, which began on Wednesday, resulted in multiple incidents of clashes, attacks on political workers, and widespread damage to public and private property.

Violence Erupts Across Multiple Districts

According to police reports, the bandh supporters targeted BJP workers in several locations, leaving multiple individuals injured. The most severe incidents were reported from the Khowai district, where protesters allegedly assaulted BJP workers and vandalized at least six vehicles.

"The situation turned violent in multiple locations as bandh supporters tried to enforce the shutdown forcefully," stated a senior police official. "We have deployed additional security forces to sensitive areas to prevent further escalation."

Vehicles Damaged, Public Transport Disrupted

The bandh supporters reportedly damaged six vehicles, including private cars and commercial vehicles that were operating despite the shutdown call. Public transportation remained largely disrupted throughout the day as many operators chose to keep their vehicles off the roads fearing violence.

Local residents reported tense situations in several areas, with markets and business establishments remaining closed in response to the bandh call. The normal life in the state came to a standstill as the protests intensified through the day.

Political Tensions Boil Over

The 24-hour bandh was called by TIPRA Motha, a prominent regional political party, to press for their various demands. However, the protest took a violent turn when supporters clashed with BJP workers who were opposing the bandh.

This incident marks another chapter in the ongoing political tensions in Tripura, which has witnessed several protests and bandhs in recent months. The state administration has been on high alert, anticipating possible violence during such shutdown calls.

Security Measures Intensified

In response to the escalating violence, security forces have been deployed in strength across sensitive locations in the state. Police have established checkpoints and are conducting patrols to maintain law and order.

"We are monitoring the situation closely and have taken necessary measures to ensure public safety," assured a police spokesperson. "Appropriate legal action will be taken against those involved in violence and vandalism."

The incident has raised concerns about the deteriorating law and order situation in the state, with opposition parties criticizing the state government for failing to maintain peace and protect citizens.
