A speeding truck rammed into an electricity pole and the boundary wall of a house in Raja Ki Dhani village near an Indus Tower in Bilaspur, Gurgaon, causing a power outage that lasted nearly 12 hours and inflicted damages exceeding Rs 42,000 to government property. The incident occurred in the early hours of May 2, but police registered a case only on Wednesday.
Residents Suffer in Scorching Heat
The residents of the area bore the brunt of the truck driver's negligence as they were left without electricity during sweltering heat. According to the First Information Report (FIR), the accident took place around 1:45 am near Chandla Dungarwas village when the driver of the vehicle drove negligently and crashed into a pole belonging to Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN). The impact also damaged the boundary wall of a nearby private house.
Complaint and Investigation
Vikram Singh, a junior engineer (JE) with DHBVN Manesar, filed a complaint with the police stating that the damaged electricity infrastructure led to a prolonged disruption of power supply in the area for approximately 12 hours. DHBVN assessed the loss to government property at Rs 42,124. An investigator said, “Following information received through the police control room, police personnel reached the spot and initiated an inquiry. During the investigation, lineman Manoj Kumar informed police that the department’s JE would submit a formal complaint along with the damage estimate.”
Legal Action Taken
Based on the complaint and a spot inspection, police registered a case under the relevant sections of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property (PDPP) Act and Sections 125 (rash or negligent acts that endanger human life or personal safety), 281 (rash driving), and 324(4) (mischief) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police said the accused driver has not yet been arrested.
Power Restoration Efforts
Talking to Times of India, JE Vikram said that a new pole was installed by 11 am, and eventually, power was restored in the area. “About 7-8% of the area in the village was affected due to the power disruption caused by the accident for around 10 hours, while the rest of the village had electricity. I submitted a detailed report of the incident to the police and also submitted an estimated report of the damages on Wednesday, following which police registered the case,” Vikram said.
Police Investigation Continues
A police officer privy to the matter said that a notice has been sent to the owner of the truck, and he has been asked to make the driver join the police investigation for further action.
