TVK Cadres Pass Resolution Urging Vijay to Contest from Perambur in 2026

In a significant political development, cadres of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) convened at a meeting in Chennai on Sunday and unanimously passed a resolution urging party president Vijay to contest the upcoming 2026 Assembly elections from the Perambur constituency. The move underscores the party's strategic focus on North Chennai, an area marked by higher poverty levels and greater public need.

Resolution Moved by TVK Election Campaign Secretary

Addressing the gathering, TVK election campaign management secretary Aadhav Arjuna formally moved the resolution, which was met with enthusiastic support from the cadres. Party general secretary N Anand later addressed the assembly, stating that the leadership would be duly informed of the cadres' request. "We wholeheartedly accept the resolution moved by Aadhav and will convey your wish to Thalapathy," Anand declared, referring to Vijay by his popular moniker.

Focus on North Chennai's Socio-Economic Conditions

Aadhav Arjuna elaborated on the rationale behind the resolution, emphasizing that the TVK leadership believes in contesting from constituencies facing significant socio-economic challenges. North Chennai, with its high poverty rates and pressing public needs, perfectly aligns with this philosophy, he explained. Aadhav further revealed that Vijay's preference is to contest from a North Chennai constituency, with Perambur, Kolathur, or RK Nagar being the top considerations.

Response to Political Incidents and DMK Claims

The decision to prioritize North Chennai was also prompted by recent incidents where TVK functionaries were allegedly manhandled while campaigning peacefully in the Harbour constituency. This has galvanized the party to make a strong entry into the region's political arena. Additionally, Aadhav addressed the DMK's longstanding claim that Chennai is its political stronghold, asserting that TVK is deliberately launching its campaign in the city to challenge this notion. "From now on, Chennai belongs to TVK," he proclaimed, adding a pointed remark about DMK leader Sekar Babu's representation of North Chennai, noting that "his godfather V S Babu is here with us."

Leadership to Consider Cadres' Request

While the resolution has been passed with fervor, the final decision rests with the party leadership. General secretary N Anand assured that the cadres' wishes would be communicated to Vijay, indicating that the request is under serious consideration. This development marks a pivotal moment for TVK as it gears up for the 2026 elections, potentially reshaping the political landscape in Chennai.
