Vijay's TVK Makes Last-Minute Candidate Swaps in Krishnagiri Districts
In a surprising move that has stirred confusion within party ranks, actor-politician Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) abruptly changed its candidates for the Uthangarai and Hosur constituencies in Krishnagiri district on Monday. The party had previously announced Kumaravel and Amrish as its nominees for these seats, but in a swift reversal, Dr Elayaraja and Venderkarasan filed their nominations as the official TVK candidates instead.
Uthangarai: A Strategic Shift with Dr Elayaraja
Dr Elayaraja, a former AIADMK district medical wing secretary and a known supporter of party deputy general secretary K P Munusamy, joined TVK just a week ago. According to party insiders, after failing to secure an AIADMK ticket in Uthangarai, he had planned to contest independently. However, local TVK functionaries successfully persuaded him to join their party and run under its banner, leading to his overnight declaration as a candidate.
This decision left Kumaravel, the originally announced candidate, out in the cold. Sources indicate that Kumaravel was struggling financially and unable to mount an effective campaign, prompting the party to replace him. In response, Kumaravel has filed his nomination as an independent candidate, adding to the electoral drama in the region.
Hosur: Performance Issues Lead to Replacement
In Hosur, Amrish was similarly replaced by Venderkarasan. Party sources revealed that Amrish's performance after being named the candidate was deemed unsatisfactory, which led to this last-minute change. The move has created uncertainty among TVK workers in Hosur, who are now scrambling to adjust their campaign strategies to support the new candidate.
The sudden candidate swaps have not only confused party workers but also raised questions about TVK's internal decision-making processes. With the elections approaching, these changes could impact the party's cohesion and electoral prospects in Krishnagiri district.
Political analysts suggest that such last-minute alterations might reflect deeper strategic calculations by TVK to strengthen its position against established parties like AIADMK and DMK. However, the immediate effect has been to sow discord among loyalists who had already begun mobilizing support for the initial candidates.
As the campaign season heats up, all eyes will be on how TVK manages this internal turmoil and whether the new candidates can quickly galvanize voter support in these key constituencies.
