TVK Seeks New Date for Vijay's Campaign Amid Scheduling Conflict with CM Stalin
In a significant development in Tamil Nadu's political landscape, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has formally requested to reschedule actor-politician Vijay's campaign event in Pudukottai's Aranthangi constituency. The party's initial application for April 10 was withdrawn after it was discovered that the date coincided with the anticipated arrival of DMK president and Chief Minister M K Stalin to the district.
Initial Application and Subsequent Rescheduling
TVK had originally applied for permission through the Suvidha portal, seeking authorization for Vijay to campaign on April 10. However, upon learning that CM Stalin's visit was scheduled for the same day, followed by a DMK public meeting in the district on April 11, the party proactively submitted a revised request.
"They have now requested April 14 at 2pm for the campaign event. This application has been forwarded to the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) for further opinion and necessary clearances," stated Aranthangi returning officer S Leelavathi, confirming the procedural update.
Allegations of Deliberate Obstruction
TVK leaders have raised serious concerns, alleging that local police authorities are intentionally withholding permissions on their preferred dates to disrupt Vijay's campaign momentum. C T R Nirmal Kumar, TVK's joint general secretary, explicitly stated, "Citing the Chief Minister's visit as the primary reason, they asked us to change our proposed dates."
This allegation points to potential administrative hurdles in the electoral process, with TVK suggesting that the timing overlap is being used strategically to impede their campaign activities in the crucial Aranthangi region.
Broader Political Implications
The scheduling conflict highlights the intense political competition in Tamil Nadu ahead of the elections. With both major political entities—the ruling DMK and the emerging TVK—vying for visibility and public engagement in the same geographical area, such logistical clashes are becoming increasingly common.
The rescheduling to April 14 represents TVK's adaptive strategy to navigate these challenges while maintaining their campaign schedule. However, the party's allegations of deliberate obstruction by police authorities add a layer of controversy to what would otherwise be a routine administrative adjustment.
Key Points:
- TVK initially applied for Vijay to campaign in Aranthangi on April 10.
- The date conflicted with CM M K Stalin's district visit and a subsequent DMK public meeting.
- A revised request for April 14 at 2pm has been submitted and forwarded to the DSP.
- TVK alleges police are deliberately withholding permissions to disrupt their campaign.
- The situation reflects broader political tensions and competition in Tamil Nadu's electoral landscape.
