Trichy Police File Case Against TVK Women Cadres for Disrupting Traffic Officer During Vijay's Campaign Event
In a significant development from Trichy, airport police have officially booked three unidentified women cadres affiliated with the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) political party. The charges stem from an incident where the individuals allegedly created a disturbance and actively prevented a public servant from carrying out his official responsibilities.
Incident Details: Confrontation at RS Puram Junction
The altercation occurred on the evening of April 19, a Sunday, coinciding with a high-profile campaign and road show organized by actor-politician and TVK leader, Vijay. According to the formal complaint lodged by Sub-Inspector (SSI) Arasu, who is attached to the Cantonment traffic police unit, the episode unfolded at the RS Puram junction.
SSI Arasu reported that three women arrived at the junction on a two-wheeler. Due to partial road closures in the area related to the political event, the officer instructed them to use an alternate route. Instead of complying, the women allegedly responded by hurling obscene language and abuse at the police officer, thereby obstructing him from performing his traffic management duties.
Viral Video Prompts Police Action
The confrontation quickly gained public attention after a video capturing the incident circulated widely across various social media platforms. The viral nature of the footage prompted the Trichy airport police to take swift legal action. A formal case has been registered under specific sections of the law.
Legal Framework: The women have been charged under Sections 296(b) and 132 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertain to committing an obscene act in a public place and deterring a public servant from duty, respectively. This legal move underscores the seriousness with which authorities are treating the obstruction of law enforcement during public events.
Context: Vijay's Political Campaign in Trichy
The incident is directly linked to the ongoing political activities of TVK leader Vijay, who has been actively campaigning in the region. Roadshows and public gatherings are common during election seasons, often requiring coordinated traffic management and security measures by local police forces.
This case highlights the challenges faced by law enforcement in maintaining order during such large-scale political events. It also raises questions about party discipline and the conduct of cadre members in public spaces. The police investigation is now focused on identifying the three women involved based on the available evidence and viral video footage.
The registration of this case sends a clear message that obstructing or abusing public officials while on duty will not be tolerated, regardless of the political context. Further updates are awaited as the Trichy police continue their probe into this disruptive incident.
