Madurai: In a tragic incident, two boys were killed after a car ran over them while they were participating in a padayatra to a temple in Tirunelveli district on Wednesday. The deceased have been identified as V Vishwa, 12, and T Venish, 12, both studying in Class VII at Kadambankulam.

According to police sources, a group of devotees was proceeding on a padayatra from Kadambankulam in Tirunelveli to a temple located in Samithope, Kanyakumari district. As they were walking near Panagudi on the Tirunelveli-Kanyakumari highway, an overspeeding car driven by a woman, A Bijola Komagal, 40, of Kanyakumari district, struck the boys.
Venish succumbed to his injuries on the spot, while Vishwa died while being rushed to a nearby hospital. The driver, Komagal, also sustained injuries in the accident. The Pazhavoor police have registered a case and are conducting further investigations into the matter.
This tragic event has shocked the local community, highlighting the dangers of overspeeding on highways. The police urge drivers to adhere to speed limits and exercise caution, especially in areas with pedestrian activity.
