Vadodara: In the recently concluded Godhra municipality elections, two couples secured seats in the civic body, as results were declared on Tuesday. Three couples had contested from various wards in the town.
Victorious Couples
Yakub Bakar and his wife Sharifa won from Ward 9, while in the neighboring Ward 8, Ashraf Chanda and his wife Raziya emerged victorious. Both couples had expressed confidence in their victory when filing nomination papers. Yakub and Ashraf are seasoned campaigners, having previously won municipality elections and also faced defeats.
Third Couple Loses
The third couple included four-time councillor Bharti Patel, who was denied a ticket by the BJP and contested as an independent from Ward 5 alongside her husband Satish Patel. They lost, with three BJP candidates and one independent winning from their ward.
