Double Tragedy Strikes Assam Roads Within 24 Hours

The peaceful districts of Cachar and Sribhumi in Assam were shaken by two separate fatal road accidents that claimed two lives within the past 24 hours, while a municipal vehicle met with a dramatic accident in the Barak River.

Tea Garden Worker Meets Tragic End

In a heartbreaking incident at Darbi Tea Estate in Cachar district, Kohinoor Bibi, a 50-year-old permanent tea garden worker, lost her life in a tragic accident on Tuesday morning. The mother of three was on her way to work around 9 AM when a speeding pickup van struck her, resulting in immediate death.

Local residents reported that the vehicle was moving at high speed when it hit Kohinoor, who worked as a permanent employee in the garden. The Dholai police station quickly responded to the scene following alerts from concerned locals.

The incident sparked anger among local residents who demanded the immediate arrest of the pickup van driver. Police officials recovered the body and transported it to Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) for post-mortem examination.

Kohinoor Bibi, married to daily-wage worker Alizan Mia, leaves behind three daughters who now face an uncertain future without their primary caregiver.

Multiple Truck Collision Claims Driver's Life

In a separate incident on Monday night, a devastating chain-reaction accident involving three trucks on NH-6 at Patelnagar in Sribhumi resulted in one fatality and serious injuries to another driver.

According to police investigations, the sequence of events began when a rear tyre burst on a Tripura-bound truck, forcing the driver to pull over to the roadside. Another truck was already parked in the vicinity when the tragedy unfolded.

Moments later, a third truck traveling at high speed rammed into one of the stationary vehicles with tremendous force. The impact was so severe that it caused the first truck to overturn and land off the road, trapping its driver beneath the wreckage.

The deceased was identified as Shekhar Paul from Panisagar in Tripura, who died instantly at the scene. His body was sent to Sribhumi civil hospital for autopsy procedures.

Another driver involved in the collision sustained serious injuries and was initially treated at a local health center before being transferred to SMCH in critical condition.

Police authorities are currently investigating whether overspeeding, loss of vehicle control, or illegal roadside parking triggered the catastrophic multi-vehicle collision.

Municipal Truck Takes Unexpected Dip in Barak River

Adding to the series of vehicular mishaps, a supersucker truck belonging to the Silchar Municipal Corporation found itself in the Barak River at Sadarghat on Tuesday morning, creating panic among local residents.

Sources revealed that the driver had taken the vehicle near the riverbank for washing purposes when the truck reportedly lost control and slipped into the water. Fortunately, the driver managed to escape unharmed from the submerged vehicle.

The incident raised questions about safety protocols followed by municipal workers while performing maintenance activities near water bodies.

These consecutive accidents have highlighted growing concerns about road safety measures and driving discipline in the region, prompting calls for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations and improved infrastructure to prevent such tragedies in the future.
