Chennai: Leader of Opposition and DMK youth wing leader Udhayanidhi Stalin, along with AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami, on Monday criticized the TVK government over the recent spate of crimes reported across Tamil Nadu.
Udhayanidhi Stalin's Remarks
In a post on X, Udhayanidhi highlighted that 25 murders, four double murders, and 19 sexual offenses were reported in the state over the past 15 days. He described these incidents as evidence of deteriorating law and order under the current regime. Questioning the situation, he asked, "Is this Tamil Nadu or Uttar Pradesh?"
Referring to specific crimes, including the sexual assault and murder of a 10-year-old girl in Coimbatore and the alleged sexual assault on a minor in Villupuram district, Udhayanidhi alleged that the victim's body in the Coimbatore case was cremated hastily without informing her mother. He stated, "At a time when people are living in fear over the rising number of crimes, merely convening police meetings and issuing routine statements are unacceptable."
Edappadi Palaniswami's Criticism
Palaniswami expressed shock over the sexual assault of a Class X student in Keelmathur, Madurai, and the murder of a 17-year-old boy near the Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple. He also pointed to the arrest of a TVK worker in Tambaram for inappropriately videographing a college girl and the intimidation of an EB officer's family by TVK cadres. Palaniswami remarked that Vijay's party was "a major cause for concern."
Ridiculing Vijay for coming to power on promises of change and a better future, Palaniswami sarcastically referred to the "bubble" that TVK was trying to create around Vijay. He said, "CM is coming daily to the secretariat. He is having lunch in a tiffin carrier. Ah, what a change! While they are trying to create a bubble, there is bloodshed across TN."
