In a decisive move against corruption, Uttar Pradesh's Anti-Corruption Organisation (ACO) executed a successful trap operation in Bareilly district on Wednesday, leading to the arrest of a government revenue official and a private individual allegedly caught red-handed while accepting a bribe.
Operation Triggered by Farmer's Complaint
The sting was set into motion based on a formal complaint lodged by Pankaj, a resident of Kesarpur village located in the Aonla tehsil of Bareilly district. The complainant alleged that a demand for illegal gratification was made in exchange for conducting the official measurement of his agricultural land.
Following the standard protocol, the complaint was verified for authenticity. Once verified, a dedicated trap team was formed under the vigilant supervision of Inspector Ishtiyaq Warsi to nab the culprits.
The Sting and Arrests
During the meticulously planned operation, the ACO team caught Virendra Pal Singh, a Revenue Inspector posted in the Sirauli area of Aonla tehsil, in the act of allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs20,000. Singh, identified as the son of Sohan Lal, is a resident of Seeralapur village under Mirganj tehsil.
Simultaneously, the authorities also apprehended Sarvesh Kumar, son of Prem Shankar from Baniya village under Mirganj police station. Kumar was arrested for his alleged role as a facilitator in the bribery transaction between the complainant and the government official.
Official Backing and Legal Proceedings
Official sources stated that this anti-corruption action was taken in compliance with the directives of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Director General of Police Rajeev Krishna, underscoring the state government's stated zero-tolerance policy towards corruption.
Both accused individuals have been taken into custody. The ACO has initiated legal proceedings against them, and a thorough investigation is currently underway to uncover any further details or potential links in this case.
This operation highlights the continued vigilance of the state's anti-corruption wing in acting upon citizen complaints and taking concrete steps to curb malpractices within the government machinery.
