Uttar Pradesh Cabinet Greenlights Rs 305 Crore Dubagga Flyover Project in Lucknow
The Uttar Pradesh cabinet has given its official approval for the allocation of Rs 305 crore towards the construction of a crucial three-lane flyover at the Dubagga crossing on Hardoi Road in Lucknow. This significant decision paves the way for a long-pending infrastructure initiative designed to alleviate severe traffic congestion on one of the city's busiest corridors.
Project Specifications and Expected Benefits
The proposed flyover will be an impressive structure, stretching approximately 1,811 metres in length and featuring three lanes with an overall width exceeding 30 metres. Strategically, it will connect the Kanpur Bypass, traverse the Dubagga crossing, and extend towards IIM Road, creating a much-needed signal-free stretch for vehicular traffic.
Currently, commuters face significant delays at the Dubagga intersection, where it can take around 30 minutes to navigate a mere 500-metre road segment to link up with the Sitapur-IIM bypass. This bottleneck is exacerbated by heavy traffic influx from Chowk, Kanpur Road, and Hardoi-Sitapur Road, resulting in near-constant jam-like conditions that intensify during peak hours.
Officials have indicated that the project is anticipated to benefit more than four lakh residents by substantially improving connectivity between key areas including Hardoi Road, Kanpur Road, Sitapur Road, Malihabad, and Chowk.
Project History and Recent Developments
The flyover project was originally included in the 2025-26 action plan of the Uttar Pradesh State Bridge Corporation (Setu Nigam), following a proposal initiated by Lucknow MP and Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. A fresh survey was subsequently ordered, leading to the preparation of a revised estimate.
An initial inspection of the proposed site was conducted in January, with the updated proposal formally submitted in February. More recently, a comprehensive joint survey undertaken by the Public Works Department (PWD) and Setu Nigam successfully cleared all technical aspects of the project.
The final report, which includes a revised cost assessment and alignment study, has been submitted to the government. Notably, the survey confirmed that the project will not impact any protected heritage structures and complies fully with environmental and wildlife regulations.
Cost Revisions and Next Steps
The earlier estimated cost for the flyover was Rs 337.60 crore. However, this figure was reduced to Rs 305 crore following the findings of the fresh survey. With the cabinet's approval now secured, construction is expected to commence upon the completion of remaining administrative formalities, marking a significant step forward in Lucknow's urban infrastructure development.
