The Uttar Pradesh unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party has initiated an aggressive start to the 2027 assembly election cycle by launching an exhaustive organizational audit. The party has deployed 'Pravasi karyakartas'—experienced party leaders and volunteers from other states, districts, and booths—across 1,918 mandals to verify the functioning of booth-level committees, which are the frontline units of the party's electoral machinery.
Key Objectives of the Audit
Party sources confirmed that UP BJP president Pankaj Chaudhary and state general secretary (organisation) Dharampal Singh have instructed functionaries to ensure that every booth committee does not merely remain on paper but remains active and well-represented socially. The Uttar Pradesh unit has taken inspiration from West Bengal, where the party's historic win was largely attributed to efficient booth management and intense outreach across various sections.
Sources indicated that the party plans to activate its ground machinery ahead of the state unit's organizational rejig. A senior BJP member revealed that the state unit implemented changes at the booth level soon after Chaudhary became the UP BJP chief in December 2025. The party intends to deploy at least 60 to 70 percent of experienced organizational functionaries at the state and booth levels.
Focus on Social Dynamics
This initiative follows the expansion of the Yogi cabinet, which focused on reclaiming OBC and Dalit support to counter the opposition's PDA plank. This plank had reduced the BJP's tally from 62 to 33 seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The key aims of the enhanced focus at the booth level include mitigating vulnerabilities, capturing the mood of voters, and assessing social dynamics.
A senior UP BJP functionary stated that the party plans to classify constituencies into three types: first, where it has never won; second, where the margin of win or loss was narrow; and third, where the party has been winning consistently since 2017. Sources revealed that the party has identified a little over 60 'high risk' assembly seats that it has not won since 2017.
Electoral Roll Revision
Sources also highlighted that the recently conducted Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls was central to the booth-level exercise. Workers have been instructed to physically confirm the status of ASD (Absentee, Shifted, and Deceased) voters. This comprehensive approach aims to strengthen the party's ground-level presence and ensure effective voter outreach in the run-up to the 2027 assembly elections.
