Uttar Pradesh Greenlights Major Convention Centre Project in Lucknow
The Uttar Pradesh state cabinet, under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has given its official approval for the construction of a state-of-the-art International Exhibition-cum-Convention Centre in Lucknow. The project, which carries a substantial budget of Rs 1,435.25 crore, is set to be developed at the Defence Expo Ground located in Sector 15 of the Vrindavan Yojana area.
Cabinet Meeting and Project Details
In a cabinet meeting held on Monday and chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the proposal was thoroughly reviewed and subsequently cleared. This decision marks a significant step forward in enhancing Lucknow's urban infrastructure and its capacity to host large-scale events. The new centre is specifically designed to serve as a dedicated venue for major conventions, government functions, and international exhibitions, thereby addressing a critical need for such facilities in the region.
Facility Specifications and Capacity
The proposed International Exhibition-cum-Convention Centre will boast an impressive array of features tailored to accommodate diverse event requirements. At its core, the facility will include a massive convention hall with a seating capacity of approximately 10,000 individuals, making it ideal for grand gatherings and conferences. Additionally, a separate auditorium with a capacity of about 2,500 seats will be incorporated to host smaller events or parallel sessions.
To maximize utility and flexibility, the design also incorporates multiple smaller halls that can be used simultaneously for meetings, exhibitions, and conferences. This multi-hall setup ensures that the centre can handle several events concurrently, optimizing space and resources.
Support Infrastructure and Safety Measures
Authorities have emphasized that the centre will be equipped with comprehensive support infrastructure to ensure smooth operations and visitor safety. This includes ample parking facilities to accommodate large numbers of vehicles, advanced security systems to safeguard attendees and property, and well-planned arrangements for crowd management in strict adherence to safety norms.
Furthermore, catering infrastructure has been planned to serve food to around 5,000 people at a single time, which is crucial for sustaining attendees during lengthy events. The venue is also being designed to host large exhibitions, trade fairs, and defence-related events, with specific provisions for displaying heavy equipment such as military platforms and industrial machinery. This aligns with the requirements of high-profile events like defence expos, positioning Lucknow as a potential hub for such gatherings.

Officials have highlighted that this project is a key component of broader efforts to strengthen Lucknow's capacity to host national and international events.
